ARI:'ARI LO SIENTO'
(ZONA BRUTA)
At our monthly Futuro Flamenco sessions
at Notting Hill Arts Club, Martin Morales and i have been hammering
this highly-talented Madrileno's three flamenco-hop albums with
great success (punter-wise), but the records are still totally invisible
in all record racks in the UK (even the specialist ones).
Which is crazy, because Madrid and Barcelona are producing some
of the most challenging and innovative rap, hip hop and funk anywhere
in Europe at present (as anyone who saw Ojo De Brujo's amazing show
at Sheperd's Bush Empire a fortnight ago will testify).
Hip hoppers like Frank T, Mala Rodriguez and Ari are more than a
match for the tidal waves of Cuban rap and reggaeton ligas, where
artists still have to be careful what they say in rap lyrics and
anyway, don't have very up-to-date equipment to say it with.
Check this latest offering from Arianna Puello as an intro to flamenco-hop
(and, indeed, pretty much anything on the Zona Bruta label). If
you can't find it, you can get a taste of her style on one track
licensed into the excellent 'Essential Latin Flavas Dos' comp (Outcaste
Records).
